In the farm yard, a young mole (Talpa europaea) is creeping about, whimpering pitifully. Its skin lies in pads along its back and sides, looking too large for it. I carry it to a nearby mole hill, which has an open hole, to place it here – but, as it turns out, the hole is occupied. A common toad (Bufo bufo) sticks out its head, looking very annoyed indeed.
Consequently, I shall have to find another hole for the mole.
